Professional law student headshot — The First Headshot, DC Metro
Real client DC Metro

From firm directories to LinkedIn — your photo follows you through 2L recruiting and beyond.

A law student headshot does work in places you'll never see — partner reviews, recruiter screens, callback decisions. Your photo is on every one of them.

// Recruiting
Firm interview submissions
The photo attached to your resume when firms screen applicants. Often viewed before your transcript or writing sample.
// Directory
Firm directory photo
Many firms require a directory photo for their summer associate page. Public-facing and used for the entire summer.
// Profile
LinkedIn photo
Your first professional LinkedIn photo — the one recruiters Google before responding to your message.
// Application
Summer associate apps
Symplicity, NALP, individual firm portals — most ask for a photo. Same photo across every application.
// Events
Firm dinner / event materials
Firms print attendee headshots for partner reference at firm recruiting events and callbacks. Worth getting right.
// Future
Bar admission photo
Some state bars require a photo for admission. Same file works for Virginia, DC, Maryland.

One session. Every file you need.

The $199 session delivers one fully retouched image — but it arrives in every format firm portals, LinkedIn, and future bar admission might ask for. No re-sizing, no re-paying.

01
High-res primary file

03
Square crop for firm directories
Many firm directory templates require a 1:1 square. Delivered alongside the standard headshot crop, ready to upload.
04
Pre-session prep guide
Sent a few days before. What to wear, what to skip, how to think about firm-appropriate styling without overthinking it.
// Why this matters

A photo on a firm directory is doing more work than you think.

Recruiting partners review hundreds of applicants. They form an opinion of you in less than a second of looking at your photo — and that opinion shapes how they read your transcript, your writing sample, and your resume. The photo is doing strategic work before anyone speaks a word to you.

You don't need a portrait. You need a photo that makes the rest of your application easier to take seriously — one that says you belong in the room before you walk into it. That's the entire product.

// Trusted by

The photographer behind The First Headshot has been invited back to Georgetown Law to photograph their community — and has built a separate practice photographing attorneys throughout the DC Metro area.

One package. One price. Built for law students.

No tier confusion, no add-on upsells. Same product whether you're a 1L getting ahead of 2L recruiting or a 3L preparing for bar admission.

Law school questions.

When should I take this photo if I'm prepping for 2L recruiting?
Most law students book their headshot in late spring or summer of 1L year — early enough that the photo is ready for fall 2L recruiting and firm dinner season. If you're already mid-recruiting and don't have a photo, book as soon as you can; same-week appointments are usually available.
What should I wear?
Business professional — what you'd wear to a callback interview. Blazer or suit jacket, clean blouse or button-down, solid colors that read well against a neutral studio backdrop. Patterns and statement jewelry pull attention away from your face on a firm directory page. The prep guide sent before your session walks through specifics.
Do I need to look "firm-y" or can I look like myself?
Both. The product isn't a costume — it's a photo where you look like a credible professional version of yourself. The coaching during the session focuses on a steady, present expression. Not the executive smile. Not the strained "trying to look serious" face. Just you, dressed for the job, looking calmly into the camera.
Will this photo work for the LSAT or law school applications?
Yes for general application materials, but note that the LSAT itself doesn't require a submitted photo — only your test-day ID. For law school applications that request a photo, this format works. For undergraduate juniors applying to law school, the same $199 product covers both your law school applications and your pre-law internship search.
I'm a visiting student or transfer — does this still work?
Absolutely. The headshot is institution-agnostic — it'll work whether you submit it through Georgetown Law's portal, your home school's directory, or directly to firms. Many transfer students use this photo across multiple firm submission systems.
Where is the studio?
South Riding, Virginia — about 30 minutes from Georgetown Law, 35 from GW Law, accessible from anywhere in the DC Metro area. Free parking on-site. Address sent in your booking confirmation.
